Siena with its historic center is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The most iconic square in Siena is the Piazza del Campo, a shell-shaped square that is considered one of the most beautiful medieval squares in the world. The square is located at the foot of the Palazzo Pubblico, with the slender Torre del Mangia and is the location of the Palio di Siena. An exciting horse race that has taken place twice a year in July and August since 1287.
The Duomo, a beautiful Gothic cathedral with a unique mosaic floor, the unfinished façade and the Libreria Piccolomini are also worth a visit.
Siena is a maze of narrow streets that are great to wander through. It is a city full of charming squares, where you can enjoy delicious Tuscan cuisine and local wines. Try the local specialties such as Pici, type of pasta and Panforte.
